scanning.net can scan film in colour or black and white up to 4000 dpi resolution. Our machines use the powerful (Digital ICE) feature to remove scratches and revive colours to produce fantastic high resolution or low resolution digital images.

Q1 What format are scanned film documents provided in?

Film records can be scanned to image formats such as Adobe PDF or TIFF and can also be converted into an editable format such as MS Word. Click here for more information on document conversion.

Q2 Can document scanning.net collect and return film records for scanning?

document scanning.net can arrange for delivery and return of film if required. We collect client’s records throughout the UK either through couriers or own own vans.

Q3 How do I know what type of film I have?

Rollfilm either 16mm or 35mm will be held on a roll, sometimes within a cassette sytle container.
Microfiche are around 6 x 4 inches in size and hold 16mm or 35mm sized frames.
Aperture cards are alway held within a card that contain a 35mm only film.

Q4 Do I need to prepare film for scanning?

Usually film does not require any preparation prior to conversion to electronic format.

Film Scanning technical information:

Fiche is a generic term for all microforms measuring approx. 6" x 4". These sheets can store microfilm images of A4 and A3 documents at 24 x reduction, and up to 270 images of computer data at 48 x reduction.

Microfiche jackets hold up to 5 strips of 16mm film, and from 60 to 70 pages per fiche. Fiche can be scanned per image as per other documents.
